Are Static and Dynamic Verbs?
1.
Static (Stative) Verbs
- Describe a state, condition, emotion,
opinion, or possession.
- These verbs are not used in continuous (–ing) tenses.
- Example:
1. I am knowing the answer.WRONG
2. I know the answer. RIGHT
Common Uses of Stative Verbs
- Feelings/emotions:
love, hate, like, prefer
- Mental states:
know, believe, understand, forget
- Possession:
have, own, belong
- Senses
(when not physical actions): see, hear, smell
- Existence/appearance:
seem, be, look (when describing state)

- Activities that change or involve movement
