A report is a formal
account of an event, incident, or activity.
- It gives facts and details clearly.
- Reports are usually written for newspapers,
magazines, or school records.
- A report should be organized, brief, and easy to
understand.
Steps
to Write a Report
1.
Understand the Topic
Read
the instructions carefully.
Identify
the event, incident, or activity you need to report.
2.
Collect Information
Note
where, when, and how it happened.
Write
down names of people involved, vehicles, or organizations.
Record
casualties, losses, or special achievements.
3.
Title of the Report
Give
a short and clear title describing the report.
Example:
“Accident on Main Road” or “Tree Plantation Week in Our School.”
4.
Write the Report
Start
with where, when, and what happened.
Include
details of people, things, or results.
Write
in past tense if it has already happened.
Use
formal language and simple sentences.
5.
Conclude the Report
Summarize
the outcome or effect.
Mention
future steps or suggestions if required.
6.
Check Language and Grammar
Make
sure your report is clear, neat, and accurate.
Avoid
unnecessary details or opinions unless asked.
Report Writing (120 words)
(i)You have witnessed an accident. Write a report for a newspaper about the accident using the following
inputs:

People, vehicle involved, loss of life and property
The scene of the accident, details of casualties-deaths, injured, hospitalized

(i) Report on an Accident
Terrible Accident on City Road
Yesterday morning, around 8:30 a.m., a road accident occurred near the main market in Indore. A school bus and a car collided at the crossing due to over-speeding. The car was badly damaged, and the bus turned to one side. Luckily, the children inside the bus suffered only minor injuries, but the car driver was seriously hurt and rushed to the hospital. Police reached the spot quickly and controlled the traffic, which was jammed for about half an hour. Local people helped the injured and shifted them to the hospital. The accident created panic among the bystanders. The police have started investigating the matter. This accident shows how important it is to follow traffic rules and drive carefully.

Our school celebrated its Annual Function on 15th August in the school hall. The function was inaugurated by the District Education Officer. The programme began with Saraswati Vandana and lamp lighting. Our Principal welcomed the guests and shared the achievements of the school. Students presented colourful programmes like dances, skits, songs, and speeches. The Chief Guest praised the students for their talents and distributed prizes to winners of academic and sports activities. Parents and guardians also attended the function and enjoyed it very much. The programme ended with the National Anthem. The function was a great success and filled everyone with pride and joy.(iii) Report on Inter-School Debate Competition
Debate Competition at Our School
An inter-school debate competition was organised in our school on 20th September in the auditorium. The topic of the debate was “Social Media: Boon or Bane.” Ten schools from the city participated in the event. Each participant was given five minutes to present their views. The competition was tough and very interesting. Judges praised the confidence and preparation of the students. Our school’s student, Riya Sharma, won the first prize, while second and third prizes went to participants from Govt. H.S.S. Sehore and Kendriya Vidyalaya. The Principal congratulated all winners and thanked the judges. The programme ended with the National Anthem. Tree Plantation Week by Eco Club
Our school Eco Club organised “Tree Plantation Week” from 1st to 7th July. The Principal inaugurated the programme by planting a neem sapling in the school garden. All students actively participated in the event. About 500 saplings of neem, mango, and peepal were planted in and around the school campus. Students also prepared posters and slogans on the importance of trees. Teachers guided the students on how to take care of plants. The Head of the Forest Department was the Chief Guest. He explained how trees are helpful in keeping our environment clean and healthy. The programme was a great success. Students promised to protect the planted trees. Brave Students Foil Chain Snatching
Last week, near the gate of our school, a chain snatching incident took place. A lady walking on the road was attacked by a snatcher on a motorbike. As soon as he snatched the gold chain, two senior students of our school, Rohit and Saurabh, noticed the incident. Without fear, they chased the snatcher and managed to catch him after a short distance. With the help of other people, they handed him over to the police. The stolen chain was recovered. The police praised the courage of our students and rewarded them for their bravery. The entire school felt proud of their daring act. This incident showed the importance of courage and presence of mind in difficult situations.(vi) Report on Puppet-Making Workshop
Creative Puppet-Making Workshop
Our school organised a puppet-making workshop on 5th August in the school art room. The workshop was conducted by a team of experts from Bhopal. Students from classes 6 to 10 took part in the programme. They were taught how to make colourful puppets using paper, cloth, and wood. The experts explained the importance of puppetry in Indian culture and tradition. Students enjoyed the workshop and displayed their creative skills by preparing different kinds of puppets. The best creations were displayed in an exhibition held at the end. The Principal appreciated the efforts of the students and thanked the trainers. Visit to a Book Fair
Last week, I visited the Book Fair held at Lal Parade Ground, Bhopal. The fair had many stalls of famous publishers like NCERT, Oxford, and Rajpal & Sons. Books of all types—science, literature, novels, storybooks, and children’s comics—were available. There were special discounts on textbooks and competitive exam guides. Apart from books, cultural programmes like folk dances and music shows were also organised. A corner was dedicated to children’s activities like painting and storytelling. The fair attracted a large crowd of students, teachers, and book lovers. I purchased a few storybooks and a dictionary. The visit to the book fair was enjoyable and increased my love for reading. Republic Day Parade in Delhi
I, Rajni, an NCC cadet of Govt. K.N.G.H.S. School, Bhopal, had the honour to participate in the Republic Day Parade in Delhi this year. The camp began on 10th January, where cadets from all over India gathered. We were trained for the grand parade at Rajpath. On 26th January, the President of India unfurled the National Flag and took the salute. The colourful parade showed India’s unity in diversity. Different states presented cultural tableaux. Brave soldiers and children who received gallantry awards were honoured. It was a proud moment to march in front of the President and thousands of spectators. Annual Sports Day Celebration
Our school celebrated its Annual Sports Day on 10th December in the playground. The programme began with a march past by the students. The District Sports Officer was the Chief Guest. He inaugurated the sports meet and inspired the students to participate actively. Events like races, long jump, high jump, kho-kho, kabaddi, and relay race were organised. Students showed great enthusiasm in every event. Winners were awarded medals and certificates. The Chief Guest praised the discipline and sportsmanship of the students. Our Principal also encouraged the students to take part in games along with studies. The function ended with the National Anthem. Blood Donation Camp by N.C.C. Unit
Our school N.C.C. unit organised a Blood Donation Camp on 12th November in the school premises. The camp was held in collaboration with Red Cross Society. Doctors and nurses from the District Hospital came to collect blood. The camp was inaugurated by the Principal. Many teachers, parents, and local people volunteered to donate blood. Students helped in registration and arrangements. In total, about 80 units of blood were collected. Refreshments were given to the donors. The doctors explained the importance of blood donation and how it can save lives in emergencies. The programme was a great success. The Principal thanked the Red Cross team and appreciated the efforts of the N.C.C. cadets.
